IS PLASTIC SURGERY POPULAR IN THE UK?
Statistics from 2012 from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons show:
- In 2015 a total of 51,000 people had plastic surgery in the UK.
- The number of cosmetic surgery operations grew 13% overall from 2014.
- All procedures have increased in popularity since 2014.
- From 2014 women’s cosmetic surgery rose 12.5%.
- Breast augmentation is still the most popular procedure (up a total of 12% from 2014).
- The ‘oversized’ trend made popular by glamour models has all but disappeared leaving most patients choosing more natural proportional surgical options.
- Men account for just 9% of all surgeries in the UK but numbers have doubled in the last 10 years from 2,440 operations in 2005 to 4,614 in 2015.

BENEFITS OF PLASTIC SURGERY

The physical benefits of plastic surgery are noticeable immediately after the bandages come off and the bruising goes down. If you have had breast augmentation you will be able to see the change immediately, the same for a nose reshaping or any other noticeable surgery.
EMOTIONAL
In many cases the emotional benefits of an operation is emotional. These results can be much more life changing than the physical changes because of the way they make you feel. If you have always disliked the way a certain body part looks, and you think that is holding you back, then getting the surgery can cause a change in confidence that will be echoed across everything you do. Although many doctors and psychologists do not think there is a huge emotional benefit, it is really up to the individual person to decide whether it will make a life changing impact or not.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS?
There are always risks to any type of surgery such as reacting badly to the anaesthesia or a chance of infection or complications post-surgery. However the risks individual to cosmetic surgery is that the operation might not come out exactly as you have expected, and you might be disappointed with what happens. You may be expecting a dramatic transformation that just isn’t possible with your bone structure, or your surgeon might not be able to do exactly what you have pictured in your head.
You need to weigh the risks in your head carefully before undertaking this, or any, type of surgical procedure.
