About Proper Finance

Are you a lender or a broker?

Proper Finance is a comparison site that is registered and authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. We work with over 100 lenders so that you can compare products and by clicking on the lender of your choice, you can apply directly on their website. If we have an application form, this will be sent to one of our partners who is best suited to your requirements including loan amount, duration and credit status.

Are you authorised by the FCA?

Yes, we are licensed and registered by the FCA. Proper Finance is a registered Trading name of Quiddi Hub Limited which is an Appointed Representative of QV Holdco Ltd, and is entered on the Financial Services Register under reference number: 740571

Are there any fees for applying?

No, there are no upfront fees for the customer or any fees for just making an application. The Proper Finance website is free to use and always will be. We may receive a commission from the lender if your application is successfully funded or approved, but this will not incur a charge to you. Naturally, you as the borrower will incur interest for your loan, but this will be directly with the lender and rates will be agreed before you proceed.

How do you choose your lenders?

Before including a lender on our website, we run through a number of checks to make sure that they are compliant and maintain the standards of treating customers fairly. Every lender we feature must be responsible and authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Is my information safe?

Yes, our site is hosted on a secure server (https) which adds extra encryption to your details and makes it harder to access from external sources. Any information you provide is shared with a company which is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and has procedures in place to protect your data.

How does your site work?

Proper Finance is a comparison site to help you find the best loan and insurance products in the UK. We select a number of partners to work with who are responsible and can service your financial requirements. We may receive a commission from the partner if your application is successfully approved or funded.

Loans

How much can I borrow?

Customers can apply to borrow £50 up to £25 million depending on the product. Unsecured short term loans and cash advances are ideal for individuals facing short-term emergencies, and borrowing £50 to £500 can help you pay for your emergency and offer some much needed breathing space.

For businesses, property or commercial loans, customers can borrow up to £25 million, however, this will usually be secured against a property, business, vehicle or similar.

What if my application is not successful?

If your application online is not successful, you will not be charged any fees and we may recommend other similar products that may be more likely to accept you. This could include adding extra security to your application such as a guarantor or collateral.

Can I apply with bad credit?

Yes, we compare a number of different financial products that are suitable for those with bad credit including guarantor loans, secured loans and credit cards for bad credit.

How do repayments work?

Depending on the financial product, you can apply for loans that last one month, all the way up to 25 years. With small loans, you may only need a few weeks or months to repay, but with long term secured loans or mortgages, you can take several years to pay them off.

Will applying affect my credit score?

No, making a loan application through our website will not affect your credit rating. There may be a soft search on your credit file and this is a way of checking your credit score and finding the loan most suitable for you. A soft search disappears from your credit file shortly after applying.

How can I improve my credit score?

To improve your credit score, there are several products that we feature that can help. This includes using credit builder credit cards, guarantor loans or signing up to a credit file checker and monitoring your score closer.

Insurance

How does insurance work?

Insurance gives you a potential pay out or compensation if something in your life, vehicle or business goes wrong. From health and medical insurance for individuals, a flood in your home, damage to your car or place of work, insurance means that you will pay a small fee either monthly or annually and only claim for the damages if something bad happens.

How long does it take to get insured?

Our partners are able to provide insurance cover for you on the same day of applying. Specifically, things like car insurance and travel insurance can be completed quickly – the ones that might take a little longer are health, home and business insurance as we require a little bit of feedback from you.

Is insurance compulsory in the UK?

For some products and purposes, insurance is compulsory in the UK. For instance, you must have vehicle insurance to driver on UK roads in a car, van or motorcycle (not bicycle).

Businesses must have insurance too, especially employer’s liability which protects any employees from getting injured at work.

Insurance that is not compulsory includes health, home, life and other specialist types of business insurance.

What information do I need to provide?

At the moment, when applying for insurance with Proper Finance, you only need to provide your name, address, contact details and some basic information – and someone from our insurance partner will call you immediately to request more information and understand your requirements.
